Teneil Nichols and sophomore
Cayden Walton from the New Mexico Highlands football team were named to the College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-District Team this morning. Additionally, Nichols was one of twelve receivers selected as a CSC Academic All-America® Finalist and will advance to the national ballot to be voted on by CSC members.
The Academic All-District® teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program recognizes honorees in four divisions: NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA.
Nichols started in all 11 games for the Cowboys this past fall and led the team with 47 receptions, 812 receiving yards and six touchdowns. He earned Second Team All-RMAC honors and was on the RMAC Academic Honor Roll. The senior from Exeter, California has a 3.58 grade point average while majoring in Human Performance and Sport.
Walton, native of Raton, New Mexico, played in all 11 games for the Cowboys this fall and compiled 114 receiving yards and five touchdowns. He had 195 rushing yards on 17 carries. He was named First Team Academic All-RMAC last month with a 3.90 grade point average in Computer Science.
