Box Score 2 Bethany, Oklahoma - The Cowboys split a pair of games on Saturday as they defeated Newman 12-7 in the early game and dropped an 11-8 decision to Southern Nazarene in the night cap. NMHU is now 1-2 on the young season.
The Cowboys found themselves in a 4-0 hole as the Jets scored two in the second and two more in the third. The bats came alive and the Cowboys scored 12 runs in the final three innings to get win number one on the season.
Carlos Chavez was two for four with a homer and three RBI and
Forrest Simpson went two for four with a homer and four RBI.
Lubby Marrujo was three for three and scored three runs and
Gael Bernal was two for three with three runs scored.
Aidan Joyce went an inning and two thirds and struck out two to earn the win in relief.
The day's second game saw the Cowboys jump on Southern Nazarene early as they led 8-2 after scoring four in their half of the fifth. The hosts scored one in their half of the fifth and added eight in the bottom of the sixth to put the Cowboys away.
Bryant O'Neil and
Gael Bernal each homered for the Cowboys.
The Cowboys close out the road trip with a game against Newman on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is set for 12:00 pm (MT).
