Amarillo, Texas - The Cowboys swept both ends of Thursday's doubleheader from Oklahoma Panhandle State taking the opener 14-0 and coming back to win the nightcap 9-4. The wins improved NMHU's record to 5-5.
The arm of
Dominick Castillo and the Cowboy bats were the story line of Game One on Friday.
Castillo tossed a complete game shutout as he scattered three hits, all singles, and logged five strikeouts to earn his first win of the season.
Cowboy bats erupted for a season high 14 runs on 13 hits led by freshman
Seth Galfano who went three for four with four RBI. Galfano's three run homer sparked an eight run third inning for NMHU.
Gael Bernal,
Forrest Simpson,
Tony Leger, and
Lubby Marrujo all had multi hit games as well. Leger and
Roman Robles each had three RBI.
Game two saw the Aggies score three runs in the bottom of the first to take an early 3-2 lead. The Cowboys responded with three in the top of the second and another four runs in their half of the seventh to put the game out of reach.
Anthony Reyes got the win as he went four innings, striking out four Aggie batters.
Tyler Sunstrom and
Aidan Joyce combined for three innings of scoreless relief.
Bryant O'Neil got his third homer of the season in the second inning. O'Neil,
Benny Martinez, and
Carlos Chavez combined for eight hits and six RBI.
The same two teams play two more games at Hodgetown on Friday with first pitch set for 11:00 am (MT). Check
