Hays, Kansas - The Cowgirls dropped a pair of matches on the opening day of the Tiger Classic on Thursday. NMHU lost to host Fort Hays State 3-0 before dropping a 3-0 decision to Bethel in the day's second match. The Cowgirls are now 3-3 overall on the young season.
In Thursday's opening match, the host Tigers controlled the action for most of the match as they won 25-8, 25-14, 25-16. FHSU recorded 12 more kills in the match en route to out hitting the Cowgirls .297 to .043.
Statistically for the Cowgirls,
Meg Pfannerstill had eight kills while
Arianna Jamerson and
Aziza Morris each recorded four.
Defensively,
Becca Wiersema had a match high 13 digs.
In the day's second match, the Cowgirls dropped three close sets to the Threshers falling 25-20, 27-25, 25-20.
Bethel had 37 kills to the Cowgirls 35 and out hit NMHU .151 to .109.
Aziza Morris led NMHU with 13 kills while
Meg Pfannerstill had eight.
Pfannerstill and Wiersema had 18 and 15 digs respectively.
Day two of the Tiger Classic gets under way at 8:00 am (MT) tomorrow morning when NMHU plays Augustana. The Cowgirls close out play with a 3:30 pm (MT) match with Northwestern Oklahoma State.
