Davis, California - UC Davis Baseball honored Ryan Conners-Copeland and New Mexico Highlands Head Baseball Coach
Steve Jones as recipients of the prestigious Clay Sigg Award during a special evening celebrating the program's history, leadership, and community impact at the annual First Pitch Dinner earlier this month.
Jones was recognized for his lasting impact on the Aggie baseball program during his tenure as an assistant coach from 1990 to 1997. While at UC Davis, Jones coached alongside Aggie legends Phil Swimley and Ralph Rago, helping shape the foundation of the program while mentoring generations of student-athletes. He was introduced at the ceremony by former player Jason Shapiro, who reflected on Jones' influence as a coach, leader, and ambassador of UC Davis Baseball values.
"Steve is a real dedicated baseball coach who did a lot for the Aggie baseball program while he was here," said Hall of Fame Coach Phil Swimley. "He is a lot of fun to be around, and I am very happy that he received this recognition."
Jones is set to return to the dugout at New Mexico Highlands for the 2026 season. He previously led the Cowboys baseball program from 1998 to 2014 and was inducted into the NMHU H-Club Hall of Honor in 2019.
The Cowboys open the 2026 season this Friday as they welcome Southern Nazarene to historic Las Vegas for an 11:00 am first pitch.
