Las Vegas, New Mexico - The Cowboys returned to a familiar formula - balanced scoring paired with stifling defense - to roll past Regis by 47 points, 98-51, on Saturday afternoon in the Wilson Complex. With the win, New Mexico Highlands improved to 9-14 overall and 7-5 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play, while the Rangers fell to 1-17 overall and 0-11 in conference action.
New Mexico Highlands led wire-to-wire, building a 47-24 advantage by halftime before outscoring the visitors 51-27 in the second half to cruise to the victory.
Defensively, the Cowboys held Regis to just 35.6 percent shooting, their second-best effort of the season, and forced 14 turnovers that were converted into 21 points.
Eleven Cowboys found the scoring column, led by Nikk William and
Dontae Walker with 15 points apiece.
Wesley Isoje added 14,
BJ Comer and
Marcus Pierce each scored 12, and
Trey Tate chipped in 10. William also pulled down a game-high nine rebounds.
Entering Saturday's contest ranked second in the RMAC in bench scoring, the Cowboys backed it up with 48 points off the bench against the Rangers.
The Cowboys hit the road Tuesday night for a 7:30 p.m. match up at Adams State, with both teams sitting at 7-5 in RMAC play.
