Cowboys Head To Hobbs For Three Game Series

Las Vegas, New Mexico - The Cowboys are back on the road this weekend playing at University of the Southwest on Sunday and Monday.  The schedule has been adjusted to accommodate expected inclement weather in the area.

New Mexico Highlands enters the series at 3-5 overall after going 1-3 on their trip to Northwestern Oklahoma State last weekend.  

COACH JONES FILE:  New Mexico Highlands University has named Steve Jones its head baseball coach, marking a return to the program for Coach Jones. He led the Highlands baseball squad for 17 years and was inducted into the H-Club Hall of Honor in 2019.

Jones's NMHU teams qualified for the RMAC conference tournament 15 times and qualified for NCAA Division 2 Regionals six times, hosting the NCAA Central Regional in 2010. Jones's NMHU teams won two RMAC conference championships and three RMAC conference tournament championships. His teams reached the finals of the RMAC conference tournament championship game six times.

RMAC POLL: The Cowboys were tabbed for an eighth place finish in the 2026 RMAC Preseason Baseball Poll.  The Cowboys received 14 votes in the voting by the league's nine head coaches.

SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION:  University of the Southwest, members of the Red River Athletic Conference, are 3-7 on the season after dropping a pair of games to Kansas Wesleyan earlier this week in Hobbs. The Cowboys and Mustangs split a doubleheader last year with NMHU taking the opener 9-0 before falling in the nightcap 6-3.

UP NEXT:  The Cowboys close out February with non-conference games at Adams State on February 27th and 28th.  RMAC play opens on March 6th in Grand Junction against Colorado Mesa.
