Alamosa, Colorado - The New Mexico Highlands University baseball team dropped a high-scoring 21–18 decision to Adams State University on Friday in Alamosa, as the two clubs combined for 39 runs and 39 hits.
The Cowboys pounded out 20 hits in the loss, led by
Nico Hilger, who went 4-for-5 with four runs scored and four RBI.
Truett Ross finished 3-for-5 with three runs and two walks, while
Tamden Webb-Tate added three hits and two RBI.
Jeremiah D'Arezzo also collected three hits and drove in two, and
Lubby Marrujo crossed the plate four times as Highlands built its 18-run output.
Highlands scored in bunches throughout the game, drawing seven walks and striking out just five times, but Adams State answered with 21 runs on 19 hits.
On the mound,
Ramon Brion struck out a team-high three over 2.1 innings in the start.
Andrew Baltazar provided a scoreless inning of relief, while
Damon McRee (1-2) was charged with the loss.
The two teams play a doubleheader on Saturday with first pitch set for 11:00 am.
