Pueblo, Colorado - New Mexico Highlands came up just short in the opener before falling in game two as CSU Pueblo swept Saturday's RMAC doubleheader at Rawlings Field. The ThunderWolves claimed a 7-6 victory in game one and a 14-3 win in the nightcap.
With the losses, New Mexico Highlands moves to 6-31 overall and 1-18 in RMAC play, while CSU Pueblo improves to 17-19 overall and 9-10 in conference action.
Game One: CSU Pueblo 7, New Mexico Highlands 6
New Mexico Highlands built an early 3-0 lead behind a two-run home run from
Nico Hilger in the second and an RBI double from
Johnathan Davis in the third.
CSU Pueblo responded with a six-run fourth inning to take control, but New Mexico Highlands battled back. Davis connected on a two-run homer in the fifth to cut the deficit to one, and
Alex Galvan drew a bases-loaded walk in the sixth to tie the game at 6-6.
The ThunderWolves answered in the bottom half of the sixth with an RBI single and held off a late push from New Mexico Highlands to secure the win.
Davis led the offense, going 2-for-4 with a double, home run, and three RBIs. Galvan and
Lubby Marrujo each added two hits.Ā
Ramon Brion allowed seven runs on 11 hits with four strikeouts in a complete-game effort.
Game Two: CSU Pueblo 14, New Mexico Highlands 3
New Mexico Highlands struck first on an RBI single from
Ryan Rodriguez in the opening inning, but CSU Pueblo answered with two runs in the first before breaking the game open with five-run innings in both the second and third.
Rodriguez drove in another run in the third, and
Seth Galfano added a solo home run in the fourth.Ā
Rodriguez finished 2-for-2 with two RBIs, while Galfano went 2-for-2 with a home run. Galvan added two hits and scored twice.
