Las Vegas, New Mexico - The Cowboys are in Lakewood for a four-game series to close out the 2026 season this weekend. They will play a doubleheader on Friday beginning at 1:00 p.m. and wrap up the season with a 12:00 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday.
Last week, New Mexico Highlands took the series finale from Regis on Sunday, out slugging the Rangers 18-12. Lubby Marrufo paced the Cowboys with four hits, while Adrian Castaneda and
Alex Galvan added three hits apiece.
COACH JONES FILE: New Mexico Highlands University has named
Steve Jones head baseball coach, marking a return to the program. Jones led the Cowboys for 17 seasons and was inducted into the H-Club Hall of Honor in 2019.
During his previous tenure, Jones guided New Mexico Highlands to 15 RMAC Tournament appearances and six NCAA Division II Regional berths, including hosting the NCAA Central Regional in 2010. His teams captured two RMAC regular-season titles and three RMAC Tournament championships, while advancing to the tournament title game six times
RMAC POLL: The Cowboys were picked to finish eighth in the 2026 RMAC Preseason Baseball Poll, earning 14 votes from the league's nine head coaches.
Colorado Christian was tabbed for a ninth place finish in the voting by the league's coaches.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT: Colorado Christian is 12-34 and 7-21 entering play this weekend. The Cougars split last week's series at Colorado School of Mines.
As a team, the Cougars are hitting .297 and have a team ERA of 10.10. Pat Jolly is in his third season as head coach of the program. Andrew Liberty is in his second season leading the Colorado Christian program.
