FINAL RESULTS
ALAMOSA, COLO. --- The New Mexico Highlands women's track and field team had a pair of first-place finishes and a school record during its indoor season opener this weekend at the Adams State Early Grizzly Open.
Annie Topal took first in the triple jump (11.79 meters) while the distance medley relay team of
Natalia Marrujo,
Savanna Sena,
Lucia Harrison and
Theresa Moser also finished first (13 minutes, 35.43 seconds) and Moser set a school record in the 3,000 with a time of 10:59.65 (she finished third in the race).
"This was a good early season test for us," NMHU coach
Bob DeVries said. "We had some really strong performances … The DMR fell short in an attempt at the school record but three New Mexico athletes along with Moser put up a solid opening mark."
The 4x400 team of Sena,
Beatrice Armijo,
Olivia Moore and All-American
Tashay Hunter took second with a time of 4:07.21. Moore also took second in the 600 with a time of 1:49.73.
Christina Mbadie was a top-three finisher in the weight throw for the Cowgirls at 13.00 meters while
Sharon Toako took fifth at 12.17 meters. DeVries said the throws group overall with three personal records and three that made it into the finals of their event.
The Cowgirls don't compete again until the Dr. Martin Luther King Invite in Albuquerque from Jan. 18-19.
