The NMHU Cowgirls hosted the Mavericks of Mesa State College at the John A. Wilson Complex on 1/22. The Mavericks came out on top with the final score of 65-62.
The Cowgirls were up by as much as 14 points in the first half. Right before the half the Mavericks took the lead and never looked back from there. The last 17 seconds of play were key moments for the Cowgirls as they tried to close the gap, but fouls on the Mavericks permitted them to pull ahead with the win.
Amanda Beauchamp led the Cowgirls with 17 points on the night, five rebounds and a steal. Beauchamp made a layup with five second remaining to close the Mavericks lead to only two points.
Briana Gholston was also in the double digits, in scoring, with 10 points on the night. She grabbed three rebounds for the Cowgirls in their efforts.
Whitney Polosky and
Ashley Logan rounded out the rebounding with four each.
The Cowgirls are now 2-6 in RMAC play as they welcome the Western State College Mountaineers to the John A. Wilson Complex on 1/23 with tip off at 6 pm.
