The Cowgirl Softball team took to the road to take on the Chadron State Eagles on 3/27 & 3/28. The Eagles proved to be too much for the Cowgirls as they could return with only one victory on the weekend. The Cowgirls are now 10-15 overall and 6-10 in RMAC play.
In game one, the Eagles took the early lead but the Cowgirls didn't allow them to hold it for too long. The Cowgirls scored three runs in the second inning to put them in the lead. The big inning for the Cowgirls was the fourth, when they hit five runs to seal their victory. Ashley Paiz took to the mound for the Cowgirls. In seven innings pitched, she had 10 hits, four strikeouts and four runs, two of which were earned. Four Cowgirls scored two runs each during the game. Samantha Butler earned 3 RBIs while Chanel Ewing had two RBIs. Paiz is now 2-1 on the mound for the Cowgirls. The Cowgirls won in a convincing fashion 11-4.
The Cowgirls weren't able to keep their streak going in the second game. They held the Eagles through the third inning when the Eagles were able to score 6 runs in that inning alone, making the score 7-5 in favor of the Eagles. The Cowgirls were unable to score again and eventually loss to the Eagles 8-5. Outstanding performers for the Cowgirls were Butler, scoring two runs, along with Paiz, Ewing and Andin Anderson all going 4-2 at the plate. Earning the loss for the Cowgirls was Tanya Groff.
Game three saw extra innings as the Cowgirls stepped their game up. The game was scoreless until the fourth inning when the Cowgirls were leading 2-1. The Cowgirls held the lead until the seventh inning when they were unable to score against the Eagles. The Eagles scored two runs in the last inning and won the game 4-3. Anderson and Diana Garcia led the Cowgirls. Anderson went 4-3 at the plate with two runs as Garcia also went 4-3 at the plate and scored the Cowgirls' only other run. Paiz earned the loss for the Cowgirls on the mound making her 2-2 on the season.
In game four, the Cowgirls were unsuccessful at scoring against the Eagles. It took the Eagles until the fourth inning to score but then after scoring two runs in the fifth inning they kept the Cowgirls from rounding home. The Cowgirls lost 3-0, in their second game losing in a shut out this year. Paiz went 3-2 at the plate for the Cowgirls. Groff again earned the loss for the Cowgirls and is now 1-7 on the season.
The Cowgirls will again take to the road as the travel to Alamosa, Colorado to take on the Adams State College Grizzles on 4/2 and 4/3.
