Cowgirls Fall in RMAC Series 3-1

#10 Andin Anderson
The Mesa State Mavericks proved to be too much for the Cowgirls' Softball team as they took three of four RMAC games in RMAC play on 4/10-11. The Cowgirls are now 12-20 overall and 8-15 in RMAC play.
Game one would be the only game the Cowgirls would win. The score was 3-0 with the Cowgirls taking the shutout. The Cowgirls kept the score at zero until late in the game when they scored three runs in the sixth inning. Melissa Martinez was on the mound for the entire game. She had 11 strikeouts with only one hit and no runs scored. Andin Anderson led the Cowgirls' winning efforts as she went 3-2 at the plate and scored a run. Roxanne Avalos earned all three RBIs for the Cowgirls.

In the second game the Mavericks were able to score in every inning as they ran away with game two with a score of 11-6. The Cowgirls held the lead through the fourth inning but the Mavericks had a big inning scoring four runs putting them in the lead and never looking back. Anderson again was a strong force for the Cowgirls as she went 4-3 at the plate and scored two runs. Tanya Groff went 3-3 at the plate, scoring one run and bringing in two RBIs during the game.

The Mavericks returned the favor to the Cowgirls in game three as the Cowgirls were kept scoreless. The game was scoreless until the fourth inning when the Mavericks scored two runs and then turned around and did the same thing in the fifth inning making the score 4-0. Martinez earned the loss on the mound for the Cowgirls as she struck out five Mavericks.

Martinez returned to the mound in the final game of the series for the Cowgirls. The game was scoreless until the fourth inning when the Mavericks took the lead and scored two runs again in the fifth inning, followed by a single run in the sixth. The Cowgirls could only answer back with two runs late in the sixth inning but it wouldn't be enough. The Cowgirls lost 5-2 and Martinez is now 7-5 on the mound for the season.

The Cowgirls will now travel to Silver City, NM for RMAC Pod Play where they will face off with the National Powerhouse Metro State Roadrunners and the Regis University Rangers on 4/17 & 4/18.
