The #7 NMHU Cowboys held on for the 8-6 win over Mesa State College to claim their third RMAC Tournament Championship under Head Coach
Steve Jones. The Cowboys claimed the regular season championship with a win over the Mavericks on 4/23 so it seems fitting that the Cowboys claim the RMAC Tournament Championship over the Mavericks after a hard fought game between the two RMAC powerhouses. Both teams played extremely well throughout the tournament and gave the fans in Kearney, Neb. a showcase of RMAC Baseball. The Cowboys are now 39-11 thus far in the 2010 season and now wait to see who and where they will be playing in the NCAA Central Regional. The NCAA Central Regional will take place 5/13-5/17 at a site that is still to be decided upon by the NCAA.
The Cowboys finished the day with a .368 team batting average and one homerun on the day. Outstanding players for the Cowboys include:
David Bustillos,
Oscar Sigala and
Kyle Gutchewsky. Bustillos finished the day going 3-4 with one run scored. Sigala finished the day going 2-5 with two runs scored and two RBI's. Gutchewsky had the big bat today for the Cowboys as he finished the day going 2-5 with one run scored, four RBI's and one homerun.
Getting the win on the mound for the Cowboys today was
Tyler Wichmann (5-0) Wichmann held strong throughout his seven and two-third innings pitch allowing just six runs on 10 hits and recording four strikeouts along the way.
Tyler Shaddy earned his fifth save of the season and second of the tournament as he shut down the Mavericks offense by not allowing a hit during his one and one-third innings pitched and recorded two strikeouts in the five batters that he faced.
Along with winning the RMAC Tournament Championship, many Cowboys were named to the All-Tournament Team.
Danny Brown,
Tyler Wichmann,
Jason Carr and
Christian Garcia were all named to the All-Tournament Team.
Danny Brown was named the MVP of the Tournament.
Now the Cowboys will wait to see who and where they will be playing in the NCAA Central Regional. The NCAA Central Regional will take place 5/13-5/17 at a site that is still to be decided upon by the NCAA.
