The NMHU Rodeo teams finished competition in four rodeos since the beginning of March. The Women's Rodeo team is ranked in first place in the Grand Canyon Region. The women hold a dominating lead of almost 1,000 points on rival NMSU with only two rodeos left in the season. The Women have finished in first place as a team in all four rodeos they have competed in this spring. The Men's Rodeo team is currently ranked in fifth place in the Grand Canyon Region.
The Cowgirls are having an impressive season this year with three Cowgirls ranked in the top three spots in Women's All-Around competition.
Jana Jasper,
Kindee Wilson, and
Jackie Smith are ranked first, second, and third, respectively in the Women's All-Around in the Grand Canyon Region. In the Breakaway Roping event,
Kindee Wilson is in first place with
Jana Jasper in fourth and
Jackie Smith ranked fifth. In the Goat Tying event,
Randa Clabaugh is in the lead in the Grand Canyon Region with Cowgirls
Jana Jasper in second place,
Kindee Wilson in fourth, and
Jackie Smith ranked sixth. In Barrel Racing, Cowgirl Sammi Lane is currently in second place in the region.
The Cowboys are faring well also with a few competitors in the top ten regionally. Cowboy
Dirk Tavenner is currently in sixth place in the Men's All-Around competition. Tavenner is the third ranked Steer Wrestler in the Grand Canyon Region. He is also ranked fourth among Team Roping Heelers and ranked ninth in the Tie-Down Roping event. Tavenner's Team Roping partner
Robert Martinez is also ranked fourth among Team Roping Headers. Cowboy
Jose Griego is ranked as the sixth place Bull Rider in the Grand Canyon Region.
The teams competed in the second Cochise College Rodeo of the season on 3/5. The Women's team finished in first place overall with the Men's team coming in fourth overall. Cowgirl
Randa Clabaugh finished second in the Women's All-Around with 110 points. She tied for fourth place in the Goat Tying event and finished in sixth in the Breakaway Roping. Cowgirl
Jackie Smith won the Breakaway Roping event with a time of 5.5 seconds. Cowgirl
Jana Jasper finished in third place in the Goat Tying event.
The Men's team finished in fourth place at the Cochise College Rodeo #2. Cowboy
Jose Griego had the top performance for the Cowboys placing third in the Bull Riding event with a score of 81.0. Cowboy
Dirk Tavenner secured fifth place in the Steer Wrestling event with a time of 11.8 seconds. Cowboys
Robert Martinez and
Dirk Tavenner combined for eighth place in the Team Roping event.
The Women's team traveled to Tucson, Ariz. on 3/6 to compete in the University of Arizona Rodeo. The Women came away with another first place finish as a team with a total of 378 points giving them a 99 point lead on the second place team. Cowgirls Sammi Lane finished in fifth place in the Barrel Racing event with a time of 17.88 seconds, only .08 seconds from first place. In the Breakaway Roping event Cowgirls
Jana Jasper and
Morgan Howard finished in second and third place respectively. Jasper finished with a time of 3.0 seconds and Howard was just behind with a time of 3.1 seconds. Cowgirl
Randa Clabaugh won the Goat Tying event with a time of 7.0 seconds.
Jackie Smith finished in third place in Goat Tying with a time of 7.5 seconds.
The teams again travelled together to Florence, Ariz. for the Central Arizona College Rodeos #1 and #2 on 3/12-13. The Cowgirls once again took the top spot as a team at both rodeos at Central Arizona College. The Men's team finished in fourth place in Rodeo #1 and finished eighth in Rodeo #2. Cowgirl
Kindee Wilson had an outstanding performance on the weekend winning the two day average buckle in Breakaway Roping, and coming away with the win in the two day overall All-Around getting the All-Around Saddle for her efforts. Cowgirl
Jana Jasper also did well winning the two day average buckle for Goat Tying.
Several Cowgirls and Cowboys had top finishes in Central Arizona College Rodeo #1. The Cowgirls finished in first place as a team with a score of 406.5 points beating the second place team by more than 200 points on the day. Cowgirl
Kindee Wilson won the Women's All-Around competition with 290 points. Wilson finished the day in first place in both Breakaway Roping and Goat Tying. Her winning times were 3.0 seconds and 7.8 seconds respectively. Cowgirl Sammi Lane won the Barrel Racing event with a time of 17.67 seconds. Cowgirl
Jana Jasper finished in second place in the Goat Tying event with a time of 8.2 seconds. Cowgirl
Morgan Howard finished tied for seventh in the Breakaway Roping event with a time of 3.8 seconds. Cowboys

Dirk Tavenner combined for a second place finish in the Team Roping event with a time of 7.3 seconds. Cowboy
Jose Griego finished in fourth place in the Bull Riding event with a score of 72 points.
In Central Arizona College Rodeo #2 the Cowgirls dominated once again, taking the Women's first place team with a total score of 512.25 beating the second place team by almost 200 points. Cowgirl
Jana Jasper won the Women's All-Around competition with an impressive 252 points. Jasper won the Goat Tying event with a time of 7.5 seconds and placed third in Breakaway Roping with a time of 3.2 seconds. Cowgirl
Kindee Wilson won the Breakaway Roping event with a time of 2.8 seconds. Cowgirl Sammi Lane finished tied for fourth place in the Barrel Racing event with a time of 18.07 seconds. Cowgirl
Randa Clabaugh finished in sixth place in Breakaway Roping with a time of 3.6 seconds. Clabaugh also finished in eighth place in the Goat Tying event. Cowboy
Dirk Tavenner finished in eighth place in the Steer Wrestling event with a time of 7.6 seconds.
The Cowgirls and Cowboys will be in action again as they travel to Taylor, Ariz. for the Tri-College Rodeo Challenge on 4/22-23. The teams' last rodeo of the season will be 4/29-30 in Las Cruces, NM as they competed in NMSU Rodeo #2.
