Tsaile, Ariz. - The NMHU Cowgirl Rodeo team finished their first weekend of competition as Champions of the Diné College rodeo, on Sept. 20-21. The Cowboys also did well over the weekend, finishing as Reserve Champions. This is the first weekend of competition for the NMHU Rodeo team and they are looking better than ever after having a very successful 2012-13 school year. The Rodeo team is a member of the Grand Canyon Region in the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association, competing against the likes of New Mexico State University and Mesalands Community College.
The Cowgirls were led by
Kindee Wilson who took the Reserve All-Around title at the Diné rodeo. She finished second overall in the Breakaway Roping event and was second in the Goat Tying as well. Wilson was tied a seven second in the second round of the Goat Tying event.

KL Spratt finished third in the average of the Barrel Racing and fourth in the Goat Tying average.
Jessie Suazo finished fourth in the Breakaway Roping average.

Chelsea DeMott made the short round of the Goat Tying and Breakaway Roping events respectively.
The Cowboys were led to the reserve champion showing by Men's All-Around Champion
Tate Thybo. The Cowboy sophomore rough-stock rider was the Bull Riding Champion over the weekend, with a first place finish in Saturday's short round. Thybo also finished third in the Bareback Riding average over the weekend.
Brady Dinwoodie won the average in the Saddle Bronc Riding event at Diné. He finished second in the first round and first in the short round.

Hunter Brasfield finished second overall in the average of the Bareback Riding, with second place finishes in both the first round and the short round.

Preston McCullar advanced to the short round of the Steer Wrestling competition.
The Cowboys and Cowgirls have gotten off to a great start in the 2013-14 season. They will be in action again next weekend, Sept. 27-28, at the Cochise College Rodeo in Douglas, Ariz.
