Box Score The NMHU Women's Basketball team has won two games in a row after their 70-60 road victory over their bitter rival, the Grizzlies of Adams State College. Adams State took the initial lead as the Cowgirls got off to a slow start. However the Cowgirls were able to turn things around, and they took the lead midway through the first half of play. The Grizzlies were able to regain the lead, but the Cowgirls fought back. When the buzzer sounded to the end the first half, the Cowgirls entered the locker room with a three point lead, up 33-30. The Grizzlies were the first to score in the second half, but try as they might they couldn't get out in front of the Cowgirls. Finally midway through the second half of play the Grizzlies managed to take a one point lead. The Cowgirls regained their composure at this point and began to put distance between themselves and Adams State. The Cowgirls would lead by as much as 12 points in the second half, and when the final buzzer sounded the Cowgirls had secured their second consecutive victory, by the final score of 70-60. With the road win the Cowgirls, led by Head Coach Tiffany Darling, improve to a 7-9 record in the RMAC and 11-9 in overall play.
The “Silent Assassin,”
Alyssa Lopez, was the leading scorer in the game for Cowgirls with 18 points. Although she struggled a little from the field, Lopez was a perfect 10-10 from the free-throw line. She also led the Cowgirls in assists with three, and she added four rebounds, two steals, and a blocked shot in her team leading 37 minutes on the court.
Ashley Godfrey had a great game for the Cowgirls, scoring 15 points against the Grizzlies. She scored nine of her points from beyond the three-point line, as she shot 50% from long range. Godfrey was also perfect from the charity stripe, going 6-6, while contributing two rebounds and one assist for the Cowgirls in her 29 minutes of playing time.
Brittany Neeley founded out the top scorers for the Cowgirls with 11 points. She shot 4-5 from the field and made two of her three free-throw attempts. Neeley played 17 minutes in the game and added three rebounds to her night's totals.
The Cowgirls were able to out-rebound the Grizzlies in the game, 40-33. Cowgirls

China Smith led the team in rebounds, with seven and six boards respectively.
The Cowgirls were outstanding from the free-throw line against the Grizzlies. They only missed one shot, going 22-23 from the charity stripe for an impressive 95.7% free-throw percentage.
The Cowgirls will continue conference action again, on 2/4, as they travel to Durango, Colo., to take on the Skyhawks of Fort Lewis College. The NCAA DII eighth ranked Skyhawks currently occupy second place in the RMAC with a 14-1 conference record and 17-2 in overall play. Fort Lewis won the last meeting between the teams, in Las Vegas, N.M., by the final score of 79-71. The Cowgirls were able to hold RMAC Pre-season Player of the Year Dana Schreibvogel to 13 points in that contest before losing by a mere eight points against the second placed team in the conference. The game is scheduled for a 5:30 pm tip-off time, with the Cowboys taking to the court shortly after the completion of the women's game.
