The NMHU Softball team lost both games of their first double header, on 4/21, in the four-game series against the Grizzlies of Adams State College, in Alamosa, Colo.  The Cowgirls came back from a 5-0 deficit, to score four runs, before finally losing game one by the final score of 9-4.  In game two, the Grizzlies strung together three two-run innings late in the game to get the win by the final score of 7-1.  With the losses against the Grizzlies, the Cowgirls, led by Head Coach Shellie Broyles, fall to a 16-22 record in the RMAC and 24-28 in overall play.
In game one, Adams State jumped out to an early 5-0 lead, scoring three runs in the first inning and two runs in the second inning. 
In the top of the fourth inning, the Cowgirls got on the scoreboard with four runs on three hits.  Two runs scored for the Cowgirls on a throwing error by the Grizzlies' catcher.  Then 
Molly McDougall stepped up and hit a two-run homerun over the wall in left field. 
The Grizzlies would add another run to the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth and after four innings they held a 6-4 lead. 
The Grizzlies put up three more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to put the game out of reach.  They shut down the Cowgirls' offense in the top of the seventh and won game one, 9-4.
Jessica Brink (10-7) was credited with the loss in game one for the Cowgirls. She threw five and a third innings from the pitcher's circle and faced 32 batters.  Brink allowed nine runs on 14 hits, but only eight of the runs were earned.  Brink struck out four batters before being relieved in the sixth inning.
Jenelle Klassen was brought on to relieve Brink in the bottom of the sixth inning.  She threw two-thirds of an inning from the pitcher's circle and faced four batters.  Klassen allowed no runs and no hits, struck out one batter and walked one.
The Cowgirls' offense combined for a .286 team batting average, with four runs on eight hits and a homerun.  
Molly McDougall was the offense leader for the Cowgirls in game one.  McDougall went a perfect 3-3 at the plate, with two RBIs, a run scored, and a homerun.
In game two, it was the Cowgirls who scored first in the top of the second inning.  
Tess Oliphant hit an RBI single up the middle of the infield that allowed 
Brittany Potter to score from third base.  After two innings of play the Cowgirls had an early 1-0 lead, but it wouldn't last long.
Adams State tied the game up at one run apiece in the bottom of the third inning, with a solo homerun to left field.  The Grizzlies' offense had gotten some momentum and they began to put distance on the scoreboard.  They scored two runs in each of the next three innings and held the Cowgirls scoreless.  When the final out was recorded the Grizzlies had won game two by the final score of 7-1.
Jenelle Klassen (9-5) was the losing pitcher in game two for the Cowgirls.  She threw a complete six innings from the pitcher's circle and faced 33 batters.  Klassen allowed seven runs on 11 hits, but only four of the runs were earned.  Klassen struck out two batters and walked two.
The Cowgirls' offense was able to hit the Grizzlies' pitching in game two, but they struggled to produce runs.  They combined for a .318 team batting average, with one run on seven hits.  
Tess Oliphant, 
Molly McDougall, and 
Brittany Potter were the offensive leaders in game two for the Cowgirls.  Oliphant went 1-3 at the plate with an RBI.  McDougall was 1-2 from the batter's box with a double.  Potter finished the game 1-3 at the plate with a run scored. 
The Cowgirls will finish the regular season, on 4/22, as they play the final double header of their four-game road series against the Adams State College Grizzlies.  Game one is set to start at 11 am with game two to follow shortly after the completion of game one.  If you can't make it up to Alamosa to watch the Cowgirls in their final double header of the 2012 season, you can watch the Live Stats
