Grizzlies Outlast Cowgirls

Box Score Las Vegas, N.M. – The NMHU Women's Basketball team fell to the Grizzlies of Adams State University, on Feb. 8, by the final score of 69-67.  The Cowgirls were just seconds away from getting the win, but the Grizzlies had enough to finish the game and grab the road victory.  With the loss the Cowgirls, led by Head Coach Tiffany Darling, fall to a 4-12 record in the RMAC and 4-16 in overall play.

Adams State held a slight lead for much of the first half, but the Cowgirls kept the game close.  When the buzzer sounded for halftime, the Grizzlies took a 31-27 lead into the locker room.

The Grizzlies stormed in front at the beginning of the second half.  They were able to extend their lead to eight points (40-32) with 17:41 left on the clock.

The Cowgirls fought back with courage and managed to take a 47-44 lead with 13:15 remaining in the game. 

The Grizzlies managed to swing the advantage back to their side, but the Cowgirls were not done.  NMHU kept the game close to the very end and they had a chance to take the lead again with just seconds remaining. 

Adams State did enough to close the game out in the end and they squeaked out a 69-67 road victory.

Kate Cryderman led the Cowgirls with 19 points against the Grizzlies.  The freshman post has been improving each and every week, becoming one of the Cowgirls' key players this season.  She added four rebounds, two blocks, and a steal in her 30 minutes on the court.

Michelle Traynham and Alyssa Lopez both scored 13 points against Adams State.  Lopez played the full 40 minutes, adding six assists and three rebounds to her night's totals.  Traynham keeps proving her worth from long range, going 3-5 from three-point range. 

Cwynnci Lobaugh rounds out the Cowgirls' top performers with 11 points.  She provided some key 3-pointers when she was on the court.

The Cowgirls will continue conference action at home, on Feb. 9, as they host the Skyhawks of Fort Lewis College, in Las Vegas, N.M.  The Skyhawks are currently in fifth place in the RMAC with a 10-5 conference record and 11-8 in overall play.
