Cowgirls Pick Up a Win Against Cougars

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Las Vegas, N.M. – The NMHU Women's Softball team played a double header on Mar. 10 against the Colorado Christian University Cougars. The Cowgirls' lost to the Cougars in the first game 4-3. In the second game, NMHU went ahead to claim the victory 6-0. With the double header split the Cowgirls, under Head Coach Shellie Broyles, advance their record to 8-12-1 overall and 2-7-1 in conference.

CCU 4 - NMHU 3
CCU went up 3-0 in the second inning. The Cowgirls handled the deficit and struck back with a run in the following inning.

Shelby Watts brought in the Cowgirls third-inning run when she hit a single into right field for one RBI.  At the bottom of the third inning, the score was 3-1.

NMHU continued to get back into the game with a one run score in the bottom of the fourth inning. The score was 3-2 in the bottom of the fourth inning.

In the final inning the Cowgirls would make another attempt for the lead. Shelby Watts reached first base through a Cougar error. She then crossed the plate when Paige Medina flied out to center field. The Cowgirls were only losing 4-3 with one out in the seventh inning. Unfortunately, NMHU was unable to claim the lead, grounding out for final two outs of the game.

The final score was 4-3 in favor of the Cougars.

NMHU 6 - CCU 0
The Cowgirls scored the first run of the game in the first inning. Erica Wieck crossed the plate on a wild pitch by the Cougars' pitcher. At the end of the first inning the score was 1-0 with the Cowgirls on top.

In the sixth inning the Cowgirls put the Cougars away by scoring five runs. Shelby Watts had two RBIs with a double to left field. Molly McDougall also had a RBI with another double to left field. Paige Medina joined the scoring with a two-run home run to right field.

The offensive explosion in the sixth inning, and Erica Wieck's pitching, contained the Cougars for the 6-0 win.

Erica Wieck pitched a great game. Wieck allowed four hits and zero runs in her shut-out against the Cougars.
