Box Score 2 Las Vegas, N.M. – Cowgirl Softball played a double header for the second day in a row on Mar.11. The Cowgirls went up against the Colorado Christian University Cougars on their Monday afternoon match up. In the first game the Cowgirls let go of a lead in their 9-3 loss. In the second game the Cowgirls would take their second loss of the day 11-0. With the results of both games, the Cowgirls' record is now 8-14-1 overall and 2-9-1 in conference play.
CCU 9 - NMHU 3
At the top of the first inning
Erica Wieck, NMHU's pitcher, denied the Cougars of a hit, leaving them scoreless. In the bottom of the first inning, the Cowgirls took the lead 1-0. After being walked,
Erica Wieck advanced the bases and scored when
Molly McDougall flied out to right field.
Tess Oliphant began the bottom of the second inning with a solo homerun. The RBI increased the Cowgirls' lead 2-0.
The Cougars began the scoring in the third inning. After trailing by two, the Cougars were able to hit four RBIs. The score was 4-2 with the Cougars on top.
The Cowgirls' deficit increased in the fourth inning when the Cougars brought in three more runs, making the score 7-2.
Despite a Cowgirls' run in the fifth inning, they would fall to the Cougars 9-3 at the end of the game.
CCU 11 - NMHU 0
The second game was one-sided. The Cougars took an early lead and held on to it.
In the top of the first inning, CCU scored two runs and didn't look back. The Cowgirls had two hits but could not capitalize for a score.
The Cougars had a no-hitter going until the bottom of the fourth inning when
Shelby Watts hit a double into center field.
Tess Oliphant also got a hit for the Cowgirls. With the two hits, the Cowgirls avoided the Cougars throwing a perfect game.
The final score was 11-0 with the Cougars over the Cowgirls.
The Cowgirls next match up is against Oklahoma Panhandle State University in Goodwell, Okla. The two teams will face each other in a double header on Mar. 13.
