Box Score 2 Goodwell, Okla. – On Mar. 13 the NMHU Cowgirl Softball team played a double-header against the Oklahoma Panhandle State University Aggies. OPSU was able to win the first game 10-4, but in the second game the Cowgirls beat the Aggies 5-4. Under Head Coach Shellie Broyles, the Cowgirls are now 9-15-1 overall and 2-9-1 in conference play.

In the top of the first inning, the Cowgirls jumped out to a 2-0 lead. NMHU earned their runs through a home run hit by
Shelby Watts.
The Aggies answered with three runs in the next two innings. They scored one run in the bottom of the first and two in the second inning. At the end of the second inning the Aggies held a 3-2 lead.
Tying up the game 3-3 in the top of the fourth inning was
Erica Wieck. She hit a single and brought in one run for the Cowgirls.
The lead was reclaimed by the Aggies, when they scored one run in the fourth inning (4-3). In the fifth inning, OPSU extended their lead (8-3) with a two-run home run and a pair of scores.
The Aggies continued the scoring in the next inning. By the end of the sixth inning the score was 10-3.
The Cowgirls managed to bring in one more run, but it was not enough to overcome the Aggies.
The final score was 10-4 with the Aggies for the win.

In the second game of the double-header, both teams went scoreless through the first inning. Then in the second inning, the Cowgirls' offense batted in two runs.
Jessica Brink had two RBIs when she hit a double. In the middle of the second inning, the score was 2-0 Cowgirls.
The Aggies scored a run in the bottom of the third inning, but it did not affect the Cowgirls. In the top of the fourth inning
Molly McDougall hit a two-run home run putting the Cowgirls up 4-1.
Climbing back into the game, the Aggies scored three unanswered runs by the fifth inning. With one run in the fourth inning and two runs in the fifth inning the Aggies made the score 4-4.
Both teams found no luck scoring runs through the seventh inning, so the winner was decided in extra innings.
In the eighth inning,
Shelby Watts stepped up to the plate and hit a one run home run. The Cowgirls claimed the lead (5-4) in the eighth inning.
Jessica Brink sealed the game by striking out two of the final three batters. The Cowgirls won the game 5-4.
Jessica Brink pitched the entire eight innings in her win. Brink had six strikeouts and allowed only four runs. With the win
Jessica Brink's pitching record is now 6-8.
The Cowgirls next match up is against Western New Mexico University in Silver City, N.M. The two teams will face each other in a double header on Mar. 16. The first game starts at 12:00 p.m. and the second game starts at 2:00 p.m.
