Box Score 3 Colorado Springs, Colo. – On the Weekend of Mar. 22 the NMHU Women's Softball team played against the University of Colorado – Colorado Springs Mountain Lions. In their first three games, the Mountain Lions were the victors of every game. The Cowgirls lost 16-4, 21-2, and 15-3, with all the games finishing in five innings. The three defeats drops the Cowgirls' record to 10-21-1 in overall play and 3-15-1 in conference.

The first inning was scoreless. During the top of the second inning
Shelby Watts crossed the plate when
Dominique Padilla hit a double into left field. In the middle of the second inning the Cowgirls held a 1-0 lead over the Mountain Lions.
UCCS answered the Cowgirls' 1-0 lead with four runs of their own in the bottom of the second inning. The Mountain Lions brought in their runners with four hits in the inning. At the top of third inning the score was 4-1.
The Mountain Lions shutdown the Cowgirls in the top of the third inning.
In the bottom of the third inning the Mountain Lions stretched their lead. With four more runs, the UCCS lead grew to 8-1.
Brittany Potter hit a home run in the fourth inning making the score 8-2.
The Mountain Lions were too much to handle in the fourth inning. They scored eight runs off of seven hits. The Cowgirls' new deficit was 14 runs. At the bottom of the fourth inning, the score was 16-2.
In order for the game to be played any further the Cowgirls would have to score seven runs in the fifth inning. Eric Wieck attempted to keep the Cowgirls in the game when she hit an RBI for a Cowgirls' score.
Brittany Potter would hit her second RBI after Wieck's hit. The Cowgirls were losing 16-4 after the final out of the fifth inning.
The eight-run rule was taken into effect, and the Cowgirls would lose 16-4 in five innings.
UCCS 21 NMHU 2
The Cowgirls would find no luck taming the Mountain Lions' offense in the following game.
Going scoreless through the first two innings of the game, the Cowgirls found themselves losing 8-0 at the end of the second inning.
In the third inning, the Mountain Lions dominance stretched the lead to 14-0.
By the bottom of the fourth inning the score was 21-0.
In the fifth inning, the Cowgirls scored two runs. Erica Wiek and
Brittany Potter were able to hit one RBI each for the Cowgirls. The two runs helped the Cowgirls to avoid a shut-out.
The Mountain Lions' lead was too much at the end. The final score was 21-2 Mountain Lions.
UCCS 15 NMHU 3
In the third game, the Mountain Lions took control early as they scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning (4-0).
In the second inning, the Cowgirls could not get one hit. UCCS gained an overwhelming lead in the second inning when they scored six runs. Going into the third inning, the Cowgirls were down 10-0.
In the top of the third inning, the Cowgirls were able to get two hits off the Mountain Lions' pitcher. Unfortunately they left two men on base and were not able to cash in a run.
The Cowgirls struggled to score. By the end of the fourth inning the score was 15-0.
A spark of Cowgirls' offense appeared in the fifth inning in the form of
Tess Oliphant. Oliphant hit a three-run home run to avoid the Mountain Lion shut-out.
The Cowgirls were unable to gain control of the lead and lost the game in five innings.
The final score was 15-3 Mountain Lions.
The final game of the Cowgirls' four-game road series against the Mountain Lions was canceled due to weather.
