Cowgirls Fall to Rangers in Final Double Header of the Season

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Denver, Colo. – The Cowgirls played their final series of the season, on Apr. 28, against the Regis University Rangers. In two games, the Cowgirls would fall behind and lose. The Rangers would get out to a big lead and the Cowgirls did not have an answer. Losing their two games of the regular season, Shellie Broyles and the Cowgirls new record is 20-33-1 in overall play and 12-26-1 in the RMAC.

RU 8 – NMHU 1
In the first inning the Cowgirls took an early lead. Andrea Gutierrez walked to first base on four balls; she advanced to second base when the Rangers' pitching walked Brittany Potter. Gutierrez would advance to third on a passed ball and score when Molly McDougall singled up the middle, making the score (1-0).

The Rangers answered in the bottom of the first inning when they scored through a Cowgirls' passed ball (1-1).

After the first inning, the Cowgirls would not get a hit until the sixth inning. The Rangers would claim the lead in the fourth inning. A home run and two RBIs would bring in three runs for RU. At the bottom of the fourth inning the score was 4-1.

In the bottom of the fifth inning the Ranger improved their lead to 5-1 when they scored a run on a Cowgirls' muffed throw.

Two more Cowgirls' hits were recorded in the top of the seventh inning but they were unable to score any runs. The Rangers topped off their scoring with three more runs and the final score was 8-1.

Erica Wieck started as the Cowgirls' pitcher but she was unable to come up with the win. Her record on the season is 8-15.

RU 10 – NMHU 1
In the second game, the Cowgirls would fall behind by one run in the first inning (1-0).

With no scores in the second inning, the Rangers would hold on to their lead. In the bottom of third inning, the Rangers would score three runs off of three hits (4-0). 

At the top of the fourth inning, the Cowgirls faced a 4-0 deficit. The Cowgirls would attempt to rally when Brittany Potter got on base with a single to left field. A sacrifice bunt would advance Potter to second base. Molly McDougall hit a single into right field and advanced Potter to third base. Potter finally crossed the plate when Jessica Brink flied out to left field. In the middle of the fourth inning the score was 4-1.

Regis would not let their lead go. They started a hitting rally in the bottom of the fourth inning. The rally brought in six runs. At the top of the fifth inning the score was 10-1.

The Cowgirls were unable to score in the top of the fifth inning. At the end of the bottom of the fifth inning the score (10-1) would be final due to the eight run rule in NCAA DII Softball.

Jessica Brink, the starting pitcher for the Cowgirls would pitch four innings in her loss. Brinks new record is 12-17.
