Noting New Mexico Highlands
The Cowgirls are looking to even their record in their final non-conference regular season of the game against Northern New Mexico. Senior
TJ Manson has reached double-digit scoring in each of the last three games, having only scored 10 points or more in one previous contest. On Friday night (Jan. 17) at Chadron State, Manson etched her first double-double with season-bests in both points (20) and rebounds (11). Over her last three games, she has increased her season average from 5.1 points to 7.5 points per game.

Against the Yellow Jackets, Highlands cut a 19-point second half deficit to three with 3:57 left in the half. Junior
Trish Simpson scored 17 points in the game, 11 more than her previous high of six points against Colorado School of Mines (Dec. 7) and Metro State (Jan. 3).

Earlier This Season
This will be the second time this season the New Mexico Highlands and Northern New Mexico have met this season. In Espanola, N.M., on Nov. 12, 2013, the Cowgirls scored the first 12 points of the game en route to a 69-47 win. Highlands jumped out to a 31-14 lead at halftime thanks to holding the Eagles to only 10.3 percent shooting (3-29) from the field.

China Smith scored only three points but grabbed 10 boards, one of eight double-digit rebounding efforts of the season.

Scouting Northern New Mexico
Northern New Mexico stands at 4-13 on the season after a 53-44 loss at South Dakota School of Mines Friday night. The Cowgirls could have a huge night on the boards as they are 95th in the nation by averaging 2.7 rebounds per game more than their opponents. Meanwhile, Northern New Mexico is averaging being outrebounded by two boards per game. However, New Mexico Highlands has to watch its back pocket as the Eagles grab 9.6 steals per game. In contrast, the Eagles opponents grab 10 steals per game.
Travana Johnson – who was held to only four points and three boards the last time the Eagles and Cowgirls met – leads the team with 11.5 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. Dachell McBride, who is second on the team with 9.7 points per game, did not even score in November against the Cowgirls.
