Box Score 2 CHADRON, Neb. – The Cowgirls took a 2-1 lead in game two, but a pair of home runs in the sixth and seventh completed the sweep for the Eagles on the day as the New Mexico Highlands softball team (11-29, 7-22 Rock Mountain Athletic Conference) lost game one 8-0 in five innings in game one and 4-2 in game two to Chadron State (19-18, 16-9 RMAC).
In game two trailing 1-0 in the top of the third, junior
Tori Gil led off the inning with a singled. She advanced to second on a junior
Amber Harding singled and scored on an RBI double by redshirt freshman
Annie Reynolds. Harding scored on a groundout by junior
Jessica Brink.
Gil led the Cowgirls from the plate in game two with a pair of hits. Junior
Jacquelyn Wood, senior
Dominique Padilla and sophomore
Amber Cordero also had a hit.
The Cowgirls held a 2-1 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth when with one out, Katie Londo tied the game with a home run after facing a full count. Highlands was retired in order in the top of the seventh before Shea Graham hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh to give the home team the win and series sweep.
Brink took the loss in the circle for the Cowgirls and fell to 5-14 on the year, allowing five hits and four runs while striking out six over 6.1 innings.
For the visitors, Graham had a double and home run in two at-bats with two RBI's and a run scored. Aryn Grywusiewicz improved to 7-8 in the circle, allowing seven hits and two runs over seven innings.
In game one, the Eagles scored seven runs in the first two innings and added a single tally in the fifth for the five-inning win. Londo had a two-run home run in the first and a three-run round tripper in the second to finish the game 3-for-3 with five RBI's and two runs scored.
Taylor Bauer ended the game with a solo home run.
For the Cowgirls, Reynolds and freshman
Miki Sylva recorded both hits in game one. Wood took the loss in game one, falling to 6-12 with five hits and four runs in one inning pitched.
The Cowgirls return to action Tuesday (April 15) when it travels to West Texas A&M for a pair of games.
