Box Score 2 GOLDEN, Colo. – The Cowgirls mounted a pair of rallies to send both games on the day to the bottom of the seventh, but the Orediggers captured the win both times as the New Mexico Highlands softball team (11-39, 7-30 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) dropped a pair of 6-5 games against Colorado School of Mines (20-25, 16-20 RMAC) Sunday afternoon (April 27) in Golden, Colo.
Tied at three entering the seventh of game one, sophomore
Amber Cordero hit her sixth home run of the season with a runner on to put the Cowgirls up going into the bottom of the inning, Down 2-0 entering the fourth, Cordero led off the inning with a single. She was sacrificed to second and scored on a freshman
Miki Sylva RBI single. Freshman
Alysia Cavone singled to put two on and another sacrifice put a pair of runners into scoring position with two out. Junior
Jacquelyn Wood legged out a single to first base to as the tying run scored.
In the fourth, sophomore
Dekota Monarrez doubled and sophomore pinch runner
Aylissa Lujan scored on a pair of wild pitches.
Wood, Monarrez, Cordero and Sylva both recorded a pair of hits to lead the offense while Cordero scored a pair of runs in game one. Junior
Jessica Brink finished the season 5-19 in the circle, giving up 12 hits and six runs (five earned) while striking out eight in 6.1 innings.
Game two saw the Cowgirls score a trio of runs to tie the game at five in the seventh. Wood, redshirt freshman
Annie Reynolds and Monarrez began the frame singling to bring the visitors within two. Brink walked to load the bases before Cordero singled with one out to cut the deficit to one. Cavone then added a two-out single to tie the game to push the contest to the bottom of the seventh.
The top of the line-up in Wood, Reynolds and Monarrez combined to go 8-for-14 with three runs scored and a pair of RBI's in game one. Wood took the loss in her final appearance in the circle in 2014, falling to 6-17 on the year. She allowed 10 hits and six walks in 6.1 innings pitched.
The Orediggers scored three in the bottom of the seventh to rally for the 6-5 win in game one. Morgan Anderson began the inning with a single and advanced to second when Sami Springer reached on an error. Cassie Ford cut the deficit in half with a bunt single. After a strikeout, Melissa Marshall was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Gianna Duncan followed with a two-RBI double to end the game and give the home team the one-run win.
Duncan led the home team with three singles and a double with two RBI's in four at-bats. Paige Noehring had three hits, two runs scored and an RBI. Kristen Prudhomme improved to 17-19 after game one, allowing 11 hits and five runs in seven innings pitched.
In game two tied at five, Colorado Mines hit a walkoff triple to record its second 6-5 win of the day. With one out, Ford singled and scored when Courtney Derus hit a triple to left center on the first pitch she saw.
Prudhomme completed the win in all four games this weekend, finishing the season with an 18-19 record by allowing 14 hits and five runs (four earned) in seven innings of work.
