Box Score 2 LAS VEGAS, N.M. - The New Mexico Highlands softball team (11-25, 7-18) lost a pair of games Sunday (April 6) in the final day of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference pod in Las Vegas, N.M., falling to Metro State (20-10, 14-7 RMAC) 14-2 in five innings in game one before losing to UC-Colorado Springs (20-10, 16-7) 13-5 in game two.
The Cowgirls only managed three hits in the game one loss to the Roadrunners, but redshirt freshman
Annie Reynolds led off the bottom of the first with her fifth home run of the season. The Cowgirls scored their other run in the fourth when sophomore
Dekota Monarrez singled up the middle, advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on an RBI double by sophomore

Jessica Brink (5-12) took the loss for the Cowgirls, allowing seven hits and seven runs (three earned) in three innings of work.
For the game, Metro State took advantage of three Cowgirls errors for seven unearned runs. The Roadrunners pounded out 13 hits with two each by Mary Towner, Kelsey Tillery, Kaylunn Harmon and Britney Thomas. Katie Deaguero, who originally entered the game as a pinch runner, hit a two-run home run in the top of the fifth – her first of the season.
Aubree Maul got the win for Metro State, improving to 8-5 by allowing only one hit (Reynolds home run) over three innings of work.
Game two saw UC-Colorado Springs take a 9-1 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth, but miscues by the Mountain Lion defense allowed the Cowgirls to bring the tying run to the plate. Junior
Jacquelyn Wood walked to begin the frame and advanced to second on a Reynolds single. An error allowed Monarrez to reach and Wood to score. A flyout advanced Reynolds to third, but a throwing error allowed Reynolds to score and pinch-runner Lujan to advance to second. After two walks loaded the bases and a flyout, freshman
Katelyn Bates walked to score the third run of the inning before a senior
Dominique Padilla singled to cut the deficit to 9-5 and bring the tying run to the plate.
The top of the lineup in Wood and Reynolds combined for a 4-for-6 game two with three runs scored. Wood took the loss in the circle for the Cowgirls, allowing nine hits and seven runs over three innings of work to fall to 6-10.
After a scoreless sixth, the Mountain Lions scored four in the seventh for the final eight-run win.
Jourdan Hitchings led the Mountain Lions with a hit in all five at-bats with three runs scored and an RBI. Jessica Belsterling went 2-for-5 but had five RBI's and a run scored. Emily Jenning finished with two hits – including her sixth home run of the year – with three runs scored and a pair of RBI's.
Besterling gave up seven hits, but only one run with seven strikeouts to improve to 9-2 in the circle for UC-Colorado Springs.
The Cowgirls return to action next Saturday (April 12) at Chadron State.
