Griffins Take the Win

Box Score Salt Lake City, Utah- New Mexico Highlands University woman's soccer team headed to Utah to play Westminster College (4-5-1) this evening in Salt Lake City. This was the first time the Griffins and Cowgirls battled it out on the soccer field. Unfortunately the Cowgirls fell to new rivals Westminster 1-0.

The Cowgirls Sophomore Mallory Bostic was ready to go and within three minutes found her way to the goal, but goalie Abi Yanke came up with the great diving save.

It was a close game, going into half neither teams could make it on the board. The Cowgirls managed to get 5 shots and junior Apolonia Thomas had 2 saves. Westminster had 4 shots and 2 saves in the first half.

It was looking as if the game would go into overtime, but with only three minutes remaining Westminster's Madison Roemer scored a goal off the cross bar from 20 yards. After that goal from Westminster, your Cowgirls did not have enough time to get another shot on goal to possibly tie the game. The clock ran out and Westminster took the win.

Your Cowgirls will continue their road trip to Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction, Colorado on Sunday (Oct. 25) at 1PM. Live stats will be avaiable.
