NEW MEXICO HIGHLANDS at MSU DENVER and BLACK HILLS STATE - MARCH 28 and 29: LIVE STATS

DENVER
– Due to a cancellation of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference pod that was supposed to be hosted by the Cowgirls in late February, the New Mexico Highlands softball team (9-17, 4-13 RMAC) will give it another go this weekend in the "Mile High" City against Metropolitan State University of Denver (20-8, 11-3 RMAC) and Black Hills State (4-17, 3-13 RMAC) for a single game against each team on Saturday and Sunday (March 28-29).

Live statistics for all games are located by clicking here.

The Cowgirls, who began the season 1-13, are 8-4 in their last 12 games including a 4-3 conference mark after losing their first 10 conference games.

It will certainly be a huge contrast for Highlands this weekend as it will battle the second-place team (MSU Denver) and the team who is next-to-last (Black Hills State).

Sophomore Gabby Hansell continues to lead the team in hitting, raising her average 11 points last weekend as the Cowgirls took 3-of-4 from CSU-Pueblo. Classmate Katelyn Bates is second with a .347 batting average with a team-leading six home runs and 27 RBI's. Senior Jacki Wood leads the team with 27 hits.

Senior pitcher Jessica Brink leads the team with a 4-7 record with a 4.56 ERA, including a 4-1 mark in her last six starts. In her last seven appearances, Brink is 4-1 with a save, four complete games and a 2.94 ERA.

For the Roadrunners, Lani Redmond leads the team in batting average (.476) and is on a current 15-game hitting streak.  The preseason RMAC favorite (currently behind rival Regis in the standings) also boasts the Preseason Pitcher of the Year in Cassidy Smith (7-5, 3.93 ERA). However, it was Kenzie Mattey (7-2, 2.92 ERA) who became the first pitcher in conference history to win RMAC Pitcher of the Week for the first two weeks of the season.

Also, Nicole Larsen (6-1, 3.75 ERA) threw a no-hitter against Fort Hays State on March 17, surrendering just a lead-off walk in the seventh as she flirted with a perfect game.

Erica Everson and Alexis Shaffer lead the core group of Black Hills State hitters. Everson leads the Yellow Jackets with a .448 batting average with four home runs and 18 RBI's. Shaffer leads the Yellow Jackets with six home runs, 19 RBI's and a .387 batting average.

Carlee Beck is the top wins getter in the circle for the Yellow Jackets. Her 3-4 record, 12 strikeouts and 5.00 ERA paces the pitching staff.

After the pod, the Cowgirls kick off a 10-game homestand Wednesday (April 1) against Eastern New Mexico. The Cowgirls and the Zias kickoff the double header at noon.
