Box Score 2 PORTALES, N.M.- The Cowgirls continued their road trip today with a double header against Eastern New Mexico.The two team would split the day as Eastern tookt he first game 10-1 while the Cowgirls took game two 7-5.

Game 1The Greyhounds came out with bats swinging in the bottom of the first. Velasquez reached on a throwing error by the Cowgirl's second baseman. She would then steal second to put pressure on the Cowgirls. Chandler, the clean-up hitter, walked on seven pitches to give the Greyhounds runners on first and second. On the third pitch Green singled up the middle to score Velasquez from second to give the Greyhounds the 1-0 lead. Pinon would follow suit with a single up the middle to score Chandler. Kissell then singled down the left field line that loaded the bases. The sixth batter of the inning, Sirag, doubled down the left field line on a 3-2 count on the eighth pitch of the at bat. Her double scored Pinon and Green to give the 'Hounds the 4-0 lead. Zerr kept the inning going on a ground out to
Marissa Valencia for the second out of the inning that scored Kissell. After one inning the 'Hounds lead 5-0.

The Cowgirls would go down four batters in the top of the second. The 'Hounds would not go quietly as Burke, the 'Hounds' first basemen would go deep the right field to make it a 6-0 lead after two innings.

The 'Hounds would continue their streak in the bottom of the third. With a runner on second and two outs the 'Hounds' Sirag singled up the middle to score the runner from second.

The Cowgirls would find themselves in another jam against the hot offense of the 'Hounds. With runners on first and second Pinon singled through left side. The Cowgirls would come up gunning home but the throw was too late as Chandler had already crossed the plate. Just two batters latter Sirag would hurt the Cowgirls as she would single to left field. Pinon scored easily but Green used some fancy footwork to make it a 10-0 'Hounds lead through four. Â

The Cowgirls would attempt to make a comeback in the top of the fifth. Valencia started the Cowgirls off with a single up the middle on a 1-1 pitch. Caporal stepped into the box and hit into a fielder's choice where the 'Hounds would get the lead runner at second. Moya singled to the pitcher to put runners on first and second with one out. Katelyn Bates would step in the batter's box. She made solid contact and drove the ball to right field which scored Caporal.
Jade Callister would strike out swinging to end the game. The 'Hounds would take game one by a score of 10-1.
Game 2The 'Hounds' bats would continue to be hot, in the bottom of the first Burke would send a shot down the right field that cleared the fence. Chandler would then step in for the 'Hounds and she would send one deep to left field that would barely clear the fence for back-to-back homeruns. After one inning the 'Hounds lead 2-0

The Cowgirls would answer in the top of the second. Bates led off the Cowgirls with a single to the left side. Cavone would bunt Bates over to second to give the Cowgirls their first runner in scoring position in the second game. A single by Weatherbee moves Bates to third to give the Cowgirls runners on the corners. After a Gonzales fly out Valencia stepped in the box. Weatherbee would steal second to make it runners on second and third. A groundball with eyes found its way through the left side, Bates and Weatherbee would cross the plate to tie the game at two after an inning and a half.

In the bottom of the second, the 'Hounds were able to score again. After back-to-back singles and a walk Rodriguez singles to left field that score two runners to make it a 'Hounds lead.

The Cowgirls put pressure on the 'Hounds' pitcher and defense in the top of the third.
Brittany Moya hit a short pop fly over the pitcher's head that no one could get to. Soils drove one the other way to give the Cowgirls runners on the corners. A single by Kamai gave the Cowgirls ducks on the pond. A well hit single to right field by Bates score Moya from third. After two Cowgirl's out Gonzales was at the plate when she singled to centerfield that allowed bates and Solis to score giving the Cowgirls' their first lead of the day at 5-4.

Every time the Cowgirls scored it seemed like the 'Hounds would answer, just like they did in the bottom of the third. Ripple flew out to right field that was deep enough to score Sirag from third.

After two Cowgirls outs Weatherbee would start a rally as she hit a double on the left field line chalk. Gonzales kept it going with a single to right field that push Weatherbee across the plate to give the Cowgirls the 6-5 lead after five and a half innings.

The Cowgirls would look to add some insurance runs in the top of the sixth. Once again they would do so in a two out rally. Soils reached on a fielding error by the shortstop. Kamai would then single to the shortstop and moved Solis to second. Bates then made a solid connection and sent the ball to right. Solis then came around to score to make it a 7-5 game.

In the bottom of the seventh the Cowgirls would look to seal the victory. On the third pitch of the half inning Brincefield would get Ripple to fly out in foul territory. Zerr would then show bunt and reach on a nice bunt to the third baseman to bring the tying run to the plate. Velasquez stepped into the box and singled to center to give the 'Hounds the tying run just 180 feet away from the plate. Burke, who had given the Cowgirls problems, hit into a fielder's choice as the Cowgirls were able to get the lead runner Zerr at third. Brincefield was able to handle the pressure and get Chandler to line out to Caporal to end the game. The Cowgirls win 7-5

The Cowgirls split the day losing the first game 10-1 while beating the 'Hounds in the second game 7-5. The Cowgirls will return to action on Saturday when they open the RMAC season at home against Metro St. Live stats and video will be available.
