LAS VEGAS, N.M.- The Cowgirl softball team will be hosting UC-Colorado Springs this weekend in an exciting four game series. The series will kick off on Saturday when the teams will play at noon and 2 p.m. On Sunday the two teams will play at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

The Mountain Lions opened their season the Desert Stinger, just like the Cowgirls, with a 3-2 showing. They Mountain Lions have not played again since. In the Desert Stings the Mountain Lions faced three of the same opponents the Cowgirls faced. The Mountain Lions beat Nebraska-Kearney 4-2, beat California State Dominguez Hills 9-6, and dropped to California State Stanislaus 6-5.

The Mountain Lions have started Stephanie Chitkowski in the circle as she has started three games and has one complete game. She has 11 strikeouts and seven walks this season with a 4.88 ERA in 14.1 innings pitched. At the plate the team is led by Dani Fonseca who has 12 total bases, including a homerun and two doubles. She is battings .353 which is fifth best on the team.

The Cowgirls are coming off a double header split with Eastern New Mexico on Tuesday which brought their overall record to 3-4. The Cowgirls have had four different pitchers start games this season.

Brianna Velasquez hold the best records at 2-1 and 1-0 respectively. Leading the way at the dish is
Katelyn Bates with 22 at bats, a .476 batting average, and a .571 slugging percentage
