Softball Splits First Day With Mountain Lions

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LAS VEGAS, N.M.- The Mountain Lions would attack in the top of the first inning. With two out Fonseca singled up the middle. Belligan followed that with a double to right two right to score Fonseca from first.
 
In the top of the third UCCS started with a walk to Hoffman. After a pop out to center, Hoffman would steal second to give the Mountain Lions a runner just 120 feet away. Belligan would hit a solid shot to right field that would score Hoffman and would put Belligan at third. Smith would then hit a fly ball to center but the throw home to get the tagging Belligan was off the mark and gave the Mountain Lions the 3-0 lead.
 
The Cowgirls would strike in the bottom of the third. Gonzales lead the Cowgirls off with a double to left center. A great bunt by Vlencia would force a bad throw by the Mountain Lion pitcher that allowed Gonzales to score from second. Caporal then laid another bunt down but no one was at first for the Mountain Lions. After a fly out to center Soils blooped on between the second baseman, center fielder, and right fielder to load the bases. The Cowgirls' next two batters would go down swinging to strand three ducks on the pond.
 
With the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth Moya slapped a hit to left field that got past the left field and rolled to the wall. Three runs would come into score and give the Cowgirls the 4-3 lead after four innings.
 
Katelyn Bates would lead off the bottom of the fifth for the Cowgirls. After fouling some off she found one that she like and connected with it to send it over the right center fence to give the Cowgirls the 5-3 with just two innings left to play.
 
The Cowgirls would close out the game in the top of the seventh to pick their fourth win of the season by a score of 5-3. Michelle Brincefield picked up her third win win of the season to put her at 3-1.

Game 2
The Mountain Lions would steal the second game in extra innings by a score of 3-.

In game two we saw a pitcher's dual as the nether team could get a run on the board in the first four innings. In the top of the fourth Martinek would go yard over the left field wall to make it a 1-0 game. The Cowgirls would answer in the bottom half of the inning A nice hit by Alyssia Cavone would score Bates. Soils would round third but a great throw by Weber, the center fielder, to Smith the catcher would nail the Cowgirl runner at the plate.
 
It wasn't until the free softball in the eighth that the game saw either team score. Cusimano would reach on a throwing error by the shortstop with one. Fonseca then doubled down the leftfield line to give the Mountain Lions runners on second and third. Smith hit a ball that had eyes through the left side that scored two and put the Mountain Lions the two lead.
 
The Cowgirls would bring up four hitters in the bottom of the eighth but were not able to push any runs across.
 
The Cowgirls and Mountain Lions will finish up their series tomorrow with games at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
