Toros Too Much In Desert Stinger Finale

Box Score LAS VEGAS, N.V.-  The Cowgirls played their final game in the Desert Stinger hosted by Montana State Billings. The Cowgirls would play Cal State Dominguez Hills in the Sunday afternoon match up as they fell to the Toros 6-1.
 
The game started out rough for the Cowgirls as the Toros would get on the board early in the first inning. The leadoff batter would for the Toros would hit a double to left field. Viramontes would then ground out to the third baseman which advanced the runner to third. Ruiz would then reach on an error by the Cowgirls second baseman which would score the runner from third. With the bases loaded Reveles would single to right center which would score score another run. Cortinas would then walk which would force a run in to make it 3-0. After a pop out by Sandoval, Campbell would single which would score one but an error by the Cowgirl's left fielder allowed another run to score. After the first half inning the Toros led by a score of 5-0.
 
The Toros would score again in the top of the second on Nicholson double that would score Viramontes form second to give them the 6-0 lead.
 
It wouldn't be til the fifth inning that the Cowgirls would have their best chance to score. After a single by Gonzales Sylva walked on six pitches to put runners and first and second. Valencia would reach on a fielder's choice that would give the Cowgirls runners on the corners. Unfortunately, the Cowgirls would ground out twice to end the inning.
 
In the top of the sixth inning the Toros would add two more to their total to make it an 8-0 game. In the bottom on the sixth the Cowgirls needed at least one run to extend the game. Solis would single to left to get the Cowgirls going. Bates would then strike out swinging. Montano would step up to the plate and ground out to third. With a runner on second Callister would be in the box. On the first pitch she saw she would ground out to the shortstop to end the game.
 
The Cowgirls finish the weekend with a 2-3 weekend. The Cowgirls will return to action a week from Tuesday on February 16th at Eastern New Mexico.
