Mid-Week Split With Aggies

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LAS VEGAS, N.M.- The Cowgirls and Aggies of Oklahoma Panhandle met in a mid-week non-conference doubleheader this afternoon. The two teams split the day with the Cowgirls taking the first game in five innings and the Aggies escaped with a one run win in the second game.
 
Game 1
The Cowgirls used runs in each of the first three innings, including a nine run third, to take the first game 13-2.
 
The Aggies scored first in the game with a sacrifice fly to get on the board. In Cowgirls answered in the bottom of the first. With the pond full of Cowgirls Alysia Cavone singled to left to score Brittany Moya from third. Dekota Monarrez followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 3-0 after one innings.
 
The Cowgirls added one run in the second on a Moya ground out with runners on the corners that scored Monica Caporal. The Aggies made it a two run game in the top of the third to make it a 4-2 game.
 
The Cowgirls broke the game open in the bottom of the third when they sent 15 batters to the plate. With Megan Thursby on first and Monarrez at second KK Kamai doubled to right center to score one run. The Aggies' pitcher would struggle with location as she hit Brianna Legarreta and walk Jamie Weatherbee to walk in a run. Jacquelyn Solis singled down the left field line with two outs and two runs scored on on an error by the Aggie leftfielder. Cavone continued the two out hitting with a single up the middle to score Solis and Moya and make it a 10-2 game. The Cowgirls would score three more runs. In the third inning the Cowgirls had nine runs on six hits and the Aggies had three errors.
 
The Cowgirls took the first game 13-2 thanks to timely hitting and taking advantage of Aggie errors.
 
Brianna Velasquez had the complete game two run win. She walked one and struck out one.
 
Game 2
Game two was much different as the two teams combined for nine runs. The Aggies used a two run blast in the top of the seventh to take the the game 5-4.
 
Neither team found a crooked number on the board when the Aggies took the lead. The Aggies took advantage of a Cowgirl error. Ariedge fouled out to a diving Solis but Gregori tagged from third and gave her team the 1-0 lead.
 
The Cowgirls answered with three runs in the fourth. With two outs and the bases loaded Caporal hit a sharp ball to second that the second baseman couldn't come up with the ball and two Cowgirls came into score.  Moya then singled to left field to push Caporal around third and she scored.
 
The Aggies added one run in the fifth to make it a 3-2 game headed into the bottom of the fifth. In the Cowgirls half of the fifth Caporal drove in Monarrez to make it a two run game with just two innings left to play.
 
Heading into the top of the seventh the Cowgirls led 4-3 with the two, three, and four hitters coming up the bat. After a single by Ibarra, Heathington hit a no doubter over the left field fence to give the Aggies the 5-4 lead that would give them the second game.
 
The Cowgirls will return to action on Saturday with their last series of the season against the Thunderwolves of CSU-Pueblo. The first game will start at noon. Live stats will be available.
