Softball's Season Comes to An End In Pueblo

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 PUEBLO, Colo.- The Cowgirls wrapped their 2016 season with a doubleheader at CSU-Pueblo. The Thunderwolves used three homeruns by Martindale to take both games by score of 10-2 and 5-4.

Game 1
The first three innings made the game look like it was going to be a picture dual. It was in the third that the Thunderwolves put the first crooked number on the board. They used two two-run homeruns, one by Martindale and Burpee to give them the 4-0 lead.

The Cowgirls answered with a run of their own. It came on a wild pitch with Monica Caporal on third base.

The Thunderwolves scored two more in the bottom of the fifth. The Cowgirls scored their other run in the top of the sixth when a single by KK Kamai drove in Victoria Gonzales from first. Headed into the bottom of the sixth the Cowgirls trailed 6-2.

The Thunderwolves continued to score in the bottom of the sixth. They scored four runs to end the game at the end of the sixth inning.

Game 2
The Cowgirls were on the board first in the second game. Kamai led things off with a double in the second inning. After Jade Callister moved her over Megan Thursby singled to left and drove in Kamai to give the Cowgirls the lead.

The Thunderwolves were led off by a Martindale homerun in the bottom of the inning to tie the game. They were on the board again in the fourth by scoring three runs with two outs. They gained the lead in the bottom of the third at 4-1

It was in the top of the fifth that the Cowgirls took advantage of a Thunderwolves' error. With two outs Jamie Weatherbee singled to right by an error by the second baseman allowed her to move all the over to third. Jacquelyn Soils singled to left and the Cowgirls cut the deficit to two. In the sixth the Cowgirls continued to hit. Kamai started things off with a single to left. She advanced to third on a Callister single. Thursby knocked the ball in the air the left field that was deep enough to for Kamai to tag and make it a one run game. Brittany Moya tied the game when she doubled to left field and Callister came into score.

The Cowgirls were hoping to go into extras as they were headed into the bottom of the seventh as the game was tied. The Thunderwolves had other plans as Hernandez led things off with a double to left center. The Cowgirls then walked Wolfe to give the Thunderwolves runners on first and second. After recording the first out of the inning Smith doubled to left center and Hernandez rounded third and scored to end the game.

The Cowgirls season comes to an end as they finish with a 15-32, 9-25 RMAC record.
