Box Score 2 LAS VEGAS, N.M.- The Cowgirls softball team was looking for their first RMAC sweep of the season this afternoon against Black Hills St. The Cowgirls were able to get sweep on senior weekend by scores of 9-2 and 13-0.
Game 1The Cowgirls didn't waste much time helping send the seniors off with a winning weekend. In the bottom of the second with runners of second and third senior KK Kamai went deep to left center to hit her team leading third homerun of the season. Four batters later
Victoria Gonzales singled through the left side to score
Monica Caporal from third. After six Cowgirl outs the Cowgirls led 4-0.
Black Hills answered in the top of the third. Fergusson reached on an error by the Cowgirl shortstop to score Smith from second base. Three batters later Wiley singled to score Fergusson from third and make it a 4-2 game.
It was the sixth inning where the Cowgirls took off. With Kamai at third and Caporal at third
Jacquelyn Solis singled down to the right field line to add two RBIs to her total. Gonzlaes doubled to left center and moved Solis to third. Senior
Dekota Monarrez went deep off the scoreboard in center field to give the Cowgirls the 9-2 lead.
Brianna Velasquez pitched a two run complete game including striking out three to earn her third win of the season.
Game 2It was all Cowgirls in the second game of the day and fourth game of the series as they completed the sweep with a score of 13-0.
Them Cowgirls scored early in the first when Monarrez singled through the left side to score
Jamie Weatherbee, the leadoff hitter, from third. The Cowgirls added some more runs in the bottom of the second.
Jamie Weatherbee added an RBI to her stats when she singled up the middle to score Caporal from second. Solis followed with a double down the left field line to score
Jade Callister and Weatherbee. After two innings the Cowgirls lead 4-0.
The bats wouldn't quiet down as the Cowgirls added more runs in the bottom of the third. With runners at second and third Callister joined the RBI party with a two run double to right center. At the end of the third the Cowgirls lead 6-0.
The fourth inning was the biggest inning of the season from the Cowgirls. Solis lead off the inning with a double. Monarrez traded places with her as the Cowgirls had the seven run lead. With the bases loaded a wild pitch allowed pinch runner
Brittany Moya to score from third and the other runners to advance. Valencia walked to load the bases once again. Kamai reached on an error by the shortstop and another Cowgirl run scored. After a Cowgirl out Callister added another RBI on an error by the pitcher, Cowgirls lead 10-0. Weatherbee followed with a two run singled up the middle. The Cowgirls added their 13
th run on an error by the Yellowjacket third baseman.
This was the first Cowgirls four game sweep of the season and their first since last season on Mrach 10
th and 11
th against Oklahoma Panhandle. Their last RMAC sweep game against Black Hills St. at Black Hills back in 2014.
The Cowgirls will return to action on Saturday at Colorado Christian for a pod with the Cougars and the Mavericks of Colorado Mesa.
