LAS VEGAS, N.M. --- The New Mexico Highlands softball team continues RMAC play this week as they once again look to dodge the weather as they take on Colorado School of Mines on Friday and Saturday at Pueblo South High School in Pueblo Colorado.
After having to squeeze three games in during one day in their RMAC-opening series against Regis due to weather, the Cowgirls and Orediggers are looking to avoid the forecasted inclement weather by moving the series up a day and moving it south. Mines' remodeled field in Golden isn't complete due to delays by weather as this series was originally scheduled to be played at Northern Colorado before the weather forecast looked bleak in Greeley.
The Cowgirls started RMAC play strong as
Belinda Gonzalez tossed a three-hit shutout to beat Regis 1-0 on Monday before falling 11-0 in game two and 12-11 in game three - a game called due to darkness in the top of the sixth with NMHU having the bases loaded with one out. On the season,
Breanna Cabrera has started the season hot for the Cowgirls at 8-for-16 with a team-high four RBI.
Mines started RMAC play 2-1 after getting three games in against Black Hills State on the road. Kendall Murphy is the lone Oredigger hitting over .300 at .378 and leads the team with four doubles to go along with seven RBI (tied for the team lead).
In the circle, Mines has a 3.33 team ERA led by Sydney Marchando who has a 2.48 ERA with 38 strikeouts in 36.2 innings of work (opponents are hitting .207 against her).
