Las Vegas, NM --- The New Mexico Highlands softball team start RMAC play this weekend in a pod where they will play MSU-Denver and Colorado Christian at the Regency Athletic Complex in Denver, CO.
Friday, Feb. 21
11 a.m. - MSU Denver vs. Colorado Christian
1 p.m. - MSU Denver vs. New Mexico Highlands
3 p.m. - Colorado Christian vs. New Mexico Highlands
Saturday, Feb. 22
11 a.m. - Colorado Christian vs. New Mexico Highlands
1 p.m. - MSU Denver vs. New Mexico Highlands
3 p.m. - Colorado Christian vs. MSU Denver
There have been a few changes to the original plan as MSU-Denver (Regency Athletic Complex) will host the pod, instead of Colorado Christian. With heavy snow in the forecast for Sunday, all three teams have agreed to move the games up a day as the game will now be played on Friday and Saturday.
ABOUT MSU-DENVER: The Roadrunners are entering RMAC play with an 8-4 record after losing their last two games to the defending national champions and at the time #1 Augustana. Laney Shepard has started the season off with a heavy stick as she leads the nation with 5 homeruns and 23 RBI's in 34 appearances. Olivia Dampier leads the team in hitting % at .436 and is second in the RMAC with 17 in 39 at-bats. As for pitching, the Roadrunners will start either Darby McGhee (1-0, 4.48 ERA) or Kayla Banks (4-1, 3.66 ERA) while Destinee Lopez will step (2-2, 6.59 ERA) in as a reliever.
ABOUT COLORADO CHRISTIAN: The Cougars start conference play at 10-5 after beating Fort Hays State on Sunday morning. Leading the way for the Cougars is Stephanie day who has recorded 19 hits in 45 appearances for a .422 hitting% and has also hit 2 homeruns and 13 RBI's while Sami Edwards has a .385 hitting % with 20 hits (4 doubles) in 52 at-bats. Kacie Burger has recorded a .347 hitting% with a .714 SLG%. You can expect Jenifer Romero (6-3, 4.13 ERA), Samaria Roope (2-1, 4.17 ERA), or Sydney Reamer (2-0, 2.10 ERA) to pitch for the Cougars.
ABOUT THE COWGIRLS: The Cowgirls start conference play with a 1-11 record after losing 4-8 to Ouachita Baptist on Sunday morning. Camryyn Ziegler is the only Cowgirl to reach double figures in hits thus far as she has recorded 12 hits which includes 2 homeruns for a hitting% of .333 and .583 SLG% while
Leah Osborn is next with 9 hits and 2 homeruns and 2 doubles and a stolen base. You can expect to see Belinda Gonzales (0-5, 5.61 ERA),
Megan Jesionowski (1-3, 6.46 ERA), or
Genise Chavez (0-3, 7.13 ERA) to start for the Cowgirls this weekend.
