COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. --- The New Mexico Highlands men's basketball team was picked sixth in the RMAC Men's Basketball Preseason Poll released Wednesday by the conference.
The Cowboys and their 116 points were picked one point and a spot ahead of MSU Denver and 16 points and a spot behind Fort Lewis. Colorado Mesa was picked to win the conference with 192 points and 12 of the 15 first-place votes (Colorado School of Mines, Black Hills State and Fort Lewis also each got a first-place vote). Colorado School of Mines was picked second followed by Black Hills State and UCCS.
NMHU didn't play last season due to the pandemic, but went 18-10 overall and 13-9 in RMAC play in 2019-20 to finish in a tie for fifth in the conference in
Mike Dominguez's first season as head coach.
The Cowboys start the season with an exhibition at New Mexico in Albuquerque on Nov. 5 before opening the season in Albuquerque at The Pit against Angelo State and Eastern New Mexico Nov. 13-14.
