GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. --- New Mexico Highlands'
Allen Michel's third-place finish highlighted the Cowboy wrestling's appearance at the Colorado Mesa University Open on Saturday.
Michel at 174 pounds opened his day with a 5-3 win over NaKoda Siegel from Montana State-Northern. After dropping an 11-7 decision to Cole Hernandez of Western Colorado, Michel defeated Tanner Baumgartner of Colorado Mesa via pin (3:31) before beating Siegel again 8-5 in the third-place match.
The Cowboys had several wrestlers pick up a pair of wins during the event in
Isaac Garcia (141 pounds, 2-2),
Antonio Guerrero (157, 2-2),
Jayden Johnson (197, 2-2) and
Luke Allan (197, 2-2).
Evan Kilgore (149, 1-2) and
Lance Kilgore (184, 1-2) each picked up a win as well for NMHU.
NMHU returns to action Saturday at Nebraska Kearney.
