Cowgirls Take On Roadrunners on Friday and Saturday Afternoon

 
Las Vegas, NM --- The New Mexico Highlands softball team will host MSU Denver with a double-header set for 12 PM on Friday March 19^th at the HU Softball Field.
 
The Cowgirls enter the weekend with a 4-8 overall record and conference record and currently with in 9^th place in the RMAC. As a team, the Cowgirls are hitting .308 (7^th in RMAC) with 103 hits (7^th in RMAC), 62 RBI, and 8 home runs.
 
Leading the way for the Cowgirls is freshman Megan Gutierrez who is batting .455 (16^th in RMAC) with 15 hits, 7 RBI and a home run. Camrynn Ziegler leads the team in hots with 19 and is also batting .404 from behind the plate with nine RBI and two home runs while Carlee Gonzalez is not far behind with a .375 batting average, twelve hits, twelve RBI (leads team), and three home runs.
 
Freshman Paige Varni (2-3) leads the Cowgirls in the circle with a 5.80 ERA (18^th in RMAC), 65 hits, and 14 strikeouts while holding opponents to a 3.80 batting average. You can also look for sophomore Nathalie Blattmann to step on the rubber with a 6.74 ERA, 64 hits, 12 strikeouts and holding opponents to a .398 batting average.
 
Due to COVID-19 protocols, the Roadrunners haven't played but only four games so far this season, and none since a disappointing four-game season-opening series sweep on Feb. 28 and March 1 at the hands of Colorado Mesa, which has since moved into the national rankings.
 
The Roadrunners are averaging 3.25 runs per game with a team .635 batting average off 24 hits. You can look for Shelby Robb (.545 AVG, 6 hits), Kayla Banks (.333 AVG, 4 hits), and Olivia Dampier (.273, 3 hits) to lead the way for MSU Denver.
