Softball Hosts Regis for 2021 Home Opener

Las Vegas, NM --- The New Mexico Highlands softball team looks to take care of business for their 2021 home opener against Regis University at the HU Softball Field in Las Vegas, NM.  
 
Kevin Jannusch and the gang are coming off a 4-game split with Black Hills State last weekend in Castle Rock, CO. In the series, the Cowgirls averaged .328 at the plate, which ranks them 6^th in RMAC play, while tallying 39 hits with 4 home runs and 25 RBI.
 
Leading the way for the Cowgirls is Megan Gutierrez with a .500 (15^th in the RMAC) batting average, 5 RBI, .857 slugging percentage and a homer while freshman Paige Varni is right behind at .462 (20^th in the RMAC) with 6 RBI and a homer herself. Camrynn Ziegler (.389, 7 hits, 3 RBI, 6 stolen bases) and Carlee Gonzalez (.333, 4 hits, 4 RBI) will also look at aid the Cowgirls offensively.
 
Paige Varni (2-0) and Nathalie Blattmann (0-2) have stepped up for the Cowgirls on the rubber, giving up a combined ERA of 5.12 with 41 hits and 13 strikeouts.
 
The Rangers as a team are batting .419 to lead the RMAC and have also totaled 96 hits with 17 homeruns (1^st in RMAC) and 78 RBI. Katherine Raper leads the way with a .625 batting average off 10 hts and leads the team with 11 RBI while Madison Flores is second with a .579 batting average with 11 hits, 8 RBI, and a home run. Victoria McCains (.538, 7 hits, 2 RBI) and Jade Loe (.522, 12 hits, 4 homeruns) will also be players to watch for the Rangers.
 
In the circle, Megan Loveland is 4-0 with a 4.42 ERA. She has also given up 26 hits, 2 homeruns, and 15 strikeouts in 19 innings pitched while Taylor Armitage is 2-0 with a 3.92 ERA and 24 hots with 8 strikeouts.
 
Unfortunately, spectators will not be allowed in to the NMHU facilities during this weekend's competitions.
