Las Vegas, NM --- The 2021 All-RMAC Softball teams were announced by the conference office and two New Mexico Highlands Cowgirls were recognized. Junior from El Paso, TX
Camrynn Ziegler was selected to the ALL-RMAC Second team in the outfield while teammate
Carlee Gonzalez (Fr; Rocklin, CA) was named All-RMAC honorable mention.
The major award winners, along with the All-RMAC and Gold Glove teams, were voted on by the conferences' 12 head coaches. Coaches could not vote for their own student-athletes. Student-athletes who received one First Team vote, or Second Team votes, were named Honorable Mention.
The Gold Glove Team was selected for the first time in RMAC softball history. The team consists of one pitcher, one catcher, one first baseman, one second baseman, one third baseman, one shortstop and three outfielders. To qualify for selection, a student-athlete shall have played in a minimum of 75 percent of the contests at the position while pitchers were required to meet the standard of appearing in 50 percent of total contests this season.
Voted to the All-RMAC second team, Ziegler competed and started in every single game this season for the Cowgirls in center field. Ziegler led the team with a .387 batting average (23
rd in the RMAC), to go along with 55 hits and 28 runs scored, both team highs. Camrynn also registered 5 home runs, 20 RBI, and led the team with 14 stolen bases to go with a .941 fielding percentage on the year.
Carlee Gonzalez was selected to the All-RMAC honorable mention team as she started the majority of the season as a catcher, but also saw time at first base for the Cowgirls and, like Ziegler, competed and started in all 40 games for the Cowgirls this season. Gonzalez finished the season with a .343 batting average which consisted of 37 hits, 28 runs scored, and team-highs with 11 home runs and 31 RBI. Gonzalez also led the Cowgirls with a .731 SLG% while boasting a .952 fielding percentage.
The Cowgirls finished the 2021 season with an 8-32 overall and conference record.
