SAN ANGELO, Texas --- The New Mexico Highlands softball team lost to Texsa A&M International 3-2 in extra innings and to No. 9 Angelo State 10-0 Friday in San Angelo.
In the loss to the Dustdevils, NMHU (2-4) led 1-0 until a two-run fifth by TAMIUÂ made it 2-1. The Cowgirls tied it in the sixth on a
Carlee Gonzalez RBI single and the game eventually went to extra innings where the Dustdevils scored in the top of the eighth and NMHU couldn't answer in its half of the inning.
Samantha Gamboa went 2-for-3 to lead the Cowgirls while Medina added an RBI double.
Nathalie Blattmann was stellar in the circle for NMHU, going seven innings and giving up two runs (one earned) on five hits with five strikeouts, two walks and two hit batters.
Arianna Ramirez got the loss in relief, going an inning and giving up an earned run on two hits.
In the loss to Angelo State, Medina, Ramirez and Gamboa each singled in the contest.
Paige Varni got the loss, going 2.2 innings and giving up 10 runs on seven hits with three walks, two strikeouts and a hit batter.
Demi Uffelman pitched the final 1.1 innings and didn't give up a base runner with one strikeout.
The Cowgirls play against the same two teams Saturday.
