Cowboys head to Texas to take on Lubbock Christian

LAS VEGAS, N.M. --- The New Mexico Highlands baseball team hits the road to take on No. 25 Lubbock Christian in the Cowboys' final games before opening RMAC play next week.

NMHU is coming off splitting a series with Wayland Baptist - winning the opener Friday 10-8 and the finale 3-1 Sunday while losing both ends of Saturday's doubleheader, 10-8 and 15-7.

Aidan McNicholl leads the Cowboys at the plate thus far this season, hitting .400 with a 1.086 OPS (HR, 3 2B) and leads the team with eight runs to go along with five RBI. Joe Kuhn has hit a team-best two homers with three doubles as he has an OPS of 1.070 to go along with a .313 average, six RBI and seven runs. Nathan Vetter is hitting .310 while Estevan De La O is hitting .306 with a team-best nine RBI and three triples. Brandon Baier has played in just six of the team's 10 games, but he's hitting .476 with a homer and three doubles and a 1.284 OPS.

Reliver Dominick Castillo has paced the NMHU pitchers as he has a 1.17 ERA with a 0.78 WHIP - allowing four hits and a run with eight strikeouts in 7.2 innings. Hunter Vancurler in five appearances in releif has a 2.79 ERA in 9.2 innings - giving up three runs on nine hits with five strikeouts.

The Chaparrals are coming off of taking three of four from St. Mary's at home last week in a four-game set that saw three one-run games and a three-run contest.

Jarred Gibson (.455 avg, 1.305 OPS, 2 HR, 12 RBI, 18 R), Eduardo Acosta (.450 AVG, 1.301 OPS, 3 HR, 12 RBI, 15 R) and Luis Navarro (.342 AVG, 1.186 OPS, 3 HR, 14 RBI, 12 R) have been a three-headed monster for LCU this season at the plate.

On the mound, reliever Cannon Davis hasn't allowed a run in seven innings - giving up three hits with 10 strikeouts. Shandon Herrera has been the team's top starter with a 2-1 record, 5.00 ERA and 14 strikeouts in 18 innings.
