Cowboys set to take on UCCS this weekend in altered series

LAS VEGAS, N.M. --- The New Mexico Highlands baseball team returns to RMAC action in an altered series against UCCS pushed back to start Saturday that will include three road games and one game at Brandt Field in Las Vegas.

The series will begin 2 p.m. Saturday in Colorado Springs and the teams will play a doubleheader Sunday before the series moves back to Las Vegas for the finale Monday.

THE COWBOYS HEADING INTO THE SERIES | 2022 STATISTICS
NMHU is coming off a series loss at home to Colorado Christian, winning the first game 20-18 in a slugfest before dropping the next three - 8-7, 9-2 and 17-9.

Brandon Baier paces the team in hitting at .395 with two homers, a team-best 14 RBI, five doubles and nine runs (OPS of 1.098). Estevan De La O is hitting .361 for the Cowboys with 11 RBI and six triples - which leads NCAA Division II. Aidan McNichol is hitting .349 with a homer and eight RBI while Jared Brown is hitting .339 with two homers, 13 RBI and a team-best six doubles.

Hunter Vanculer leads the NMHU pitching staff out of the bullpen with a 4.91 ERA in 14.2 innings and nine strikeouts. Dominick Castillo out of the bullpen owns a 5.56 ERA with 10 strikeouts in 11.1 innings for the Cowboys. Jadrian Martinez has been the team's top starter with a 9.50 ERA in five appearances (four starts) and has a team-beste 16 strikeouts in 18 innings.

UCCS HEADING INTO THE SERIES | 2022 STATISTICS
The Mountain Lions have dropped four straight heading into their RMAC-opening series - last playing March 1 - a 16-15 loss at home to St. Cloud State.

Kiichi Sato has been the team's top hitter wit ha .414 average (1.021 OPS) with nine doubles, eight RBI and 17 runs. Caleb Stubbings has been the team's top power threat with four homers and 13 RBI to go along with a .327 average and 1.001 OPS.

Jonathan Cowles has been the team's top starter with a 2-1 mark, 4.19 ERA and 17 strikeouts in three starts (four appearances - 19.1 innings). Hunter Owens has led the team in relief with a 2.25 ERA in eight innings with 11 strikeouts.
