Cowboy baseball returns home to host series against Regis starting Friday

LAS VEGAS, N.M. --- The New Mexico Highlands baseball team returns to Brandt Baseball Field to host Regis in a four-game series starting 3 p.m. Friday.

THE COWBOYS HEADING INTO THE SERIES | 2022 STATISTICS
NMHU is coming off of going 1-3 in a series for the third-straight week to start RMAC play - this time at MSU Denver. The Cowboys won the opener 12-6 before dropping the next three games 10-1, 6-1 and 9-6.

Brandon Baier has paced the Cowboys at the plate, hitting .387 with a 1.159 OPS, six homers, 25 RBI, 19 runs and seven doubles - leading the team in each category or tied for the top spot. Estevan De La O moved his average up to .383 (.982 OPS) with a homer, six triples (top five in the nation), four doubles, 14 RBI and 17 runs. Aidan McNichol is hitting .338 with 14 RBI and seven doubles and a homer while Jared Brown is hitting .314 with four homers, 16 RBI and seven doubles.

Dominick Castillo leads the Cowboys out of the bullpen with a 4.85 ERA and 11 strikeouts in 13 innings while Hunter Vancurler out of the pen has a 5.23 ERA with 11 strikeouts in 20.2 innings.

REGIS HEADING INTO THE SERIES | 2022 STATISTICS
The Rangers extended their winning streak to six games last weekend after sweeping a four-game set from Adams State, 5-4, 15-5, 6-4 and 19-11.

Roger Riley leads the Rangers in average (.434), OPS (1.158) and runs (30) to go along with five homers and 20 RBI. Colten Chase is hitting .395 with two homers, 23 RBI, eight doubles, 22 runs and 14 stolen bases, Matt Marlow has a team-best six homers and 28 RBI to go along with a .365 average, 10 doubles, two triples and 26 runs.

Justin Kleinsorge has been the team's top starting pitcher at 2-1 with a 3.67 ERA, 51 strikeouts and only 27 hits allowed in 34.1 innings. Ethan Sloan has been the top arm out of the bullpen (and has two starts) with a 2.70 ERA with 29 strikeouts in 23.1 innings.
