Cowgirls Bounce Back Twice, Split Weekend Series 2-2

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Pueblo,CO- Game 1 was a nailbiter for the Cowgirls. Likewise in game 1 on day 1, the Cowgirls found themselves down early into the matchup. Down the majority of the game 1-4 it would have been easy for NMHU to give up. However, Gabby Varela had other plans in mind. Varela sent the ball over the gate to tie the game up at 4. The game remained tied and needed an extra inning. Pueblo managed to connect on a home run to become victorious 7-4.

Game 2 - Game 2 continued the trend of Game 1. Pueblo picked up where they left off and scored a 1st inning home run which resulted in 3 runs for the ThunderWolves. The cowgirls rode their way right back into the game when Arianna Ramirez smashed a home run over the left field gate. This tied the game up at 3. The ThunderWolves managed to score 2 more runs in the 3rd inning only for NMHU to score 1 run in the 4th and 1 run in the 5th tying the game 5-5. In the 6th inning Arianna Ramirez scored one more run on a pop-up by Maya Milano. Going into the bottom of the 7th and final inning with a lead of 6-5 Maya Milano and the Cowgirls defense locked in when they needed to most. The first batter was thrown out by Dioni Lincoln while the second batter smashed a line drive that pitcher Milano snatched out of the air. The game ended on a pop fly down center field to Samantha Gamboa.

NMHU Cowgirls showed a great deal of resiliency this weekend. Losing game 1 and bouncing back to win game 2 on both days in which the fashion they were won is a credit to the team and decision making by Coach Ashley Forshee, who is only in her first season as a coach.

Next matchup- The Cowgirls will hit the road again next weekend to take on Colorado Christian in a two day double header.
